During hospital stays, patients frequently spend most of their time watching television, on the phone, sleeping, in diagnostic evaluations or eating.
I was deeply moved by the sense of isolation and loneliness I observed among my patients.
Because of these experiences, I committed my professional life to assisting people, and helping them to get well, using techniques that were not considered conventional, but were powerful. They can help anyone rapidly improve their health, and leave the hospital sooner.
Over many years, thousands of medical research studies, reported in major journals have shown the effectiveness and safety of these techniques.
1. Learn to Relax Effectively-The vast majority of chronic diseases are linked to unending distress . Approximately 85 per cent of all illnesses, especially the ones that are most common, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, hypertension, stroke, asthma, and many more are affected by stress.
Truth be told, stress really isn't the issue. How you choose to respond to it is. What better time could there be than during your hospitalization to learn how to have a healthier reaction to stressful situations? The faster you adapt new techniques to help you respond in a confident, healthier way, and not becoming distressed, will assist your body and help it to heal. Placing stress into a different perspective realizing you have the capacity to overcome anything, even this illness. It may be a very challenging thing to do, especially now when you're sick. But if you truly want to get well, overcoming and altering your stress response will reap huge benefits, for years to come. Now is truly the only time you have. A relaxed state of mind and body, is a very important part of your get well equation. Also, is the stressful situation as significant as you think it is? Is it as important as your health? Usually it isn't.
Also, when you focus on your breathing, take deep breaths using your diaphragm, it will send relaxation signals to your entire body.
2. Express yourself -Engage your mind creatively. If you can write a letter to a friend, family member, even yourself. Keep a diary, this hospitalization can be viewed as an adventure. Write about what's on your heart. The regular practice of expressing your feelings through writing is associated with health improvement, immune system function enhancement, and fewer doctor visits.
3. Laugh- Laughter is one of my favorite forms of healing. It is easy, effective and you can immediately feel the benefits. During the early 1980s, I watched a television report about a man, Norman Cousins , former editor of Saturday Evening Post Magazine and author of Anatomy of an Illness was cured from an incurable disease involving his nervous system after watching comedy movies for several hours a day over the course of a few weeks.
My motto : Laughter every day helps keep the doctor away.
